We found ourselves discussing what feels like our country’s “1935 moment,” a critical, high-stakes juncture where democracy itself hangs in the balance, and the choices we make today will echo for generations. In moments like this, coalition-building isn’t just a political strategy; it’s a necessity.
That is why we both felt so strongly about the factionalism tearing at the fabric of the Democratic Party, and how it mirrors the 2016 MAGA cannibalization of the former GOP. We talked about how groups like the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have become a deeply divisive, “cancerous” presence within our coalition, trading pragmatic progress for ideological purity tests, and the need to disavow the movement and cut it off.
We both proudly claim the label of Progressive Democrats. We believe in bold, results-oriented policy that improves people’s lives. But we refuse to tolerate the unhinged, reactionary, batsh-t crazy rhetoric of the ultra-far-left. She represents the exact kind of leader we need more of: someone with deeply progressive values whose only “cardinal sin” in the eyes of extremists was holding the entirely reasonable, humane belief that both Israel and Palestine have a fundamental right to exist, and a right to self-determine their future.
